A no cooking Saturday

Today we went in to Brownsville for some groceries, the market there seems bigger than the one in Oregon House. We hadn’t been to Brownsville, CA before, it is a very small town about 8 miles north of the campground. The road is windy but it’s a very pretty drive through the pines. Once we were there we decided to have breakfast at Bonnie Lou’s café and then it was back to the trailer.

Tonight we went to a Spaghetti Dinner hosted by the Dobbins/Oregon House Volunteer Fire Department held here at the park. They had quite a feed! A lot of people attended, most from the surrounding community. There was a raffle and a silent auction. Even as we drove back to the trailer there were a number of cars heading in for the dinner. I hope it was a great success for them!

Deer visit

We did a little drive around the park today. It started off as going to the store here in the park to sign up for the spaghetti feed dinner that is on Saturday night, but the store is only open on Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m. Lake of the Springs doesn‘t run “full service” until sometime in April so everything is scaled back right now. From there we checked out a couple areas we hadn’t been through before, it really is a nice park.

This evening Cheye started hopping around, looking out the window. I looked out and there was a bunch of deer right beside the trailer. So beautiful and so amazing to have deer wandering around just beside us.

Moved

This morning we went into Oregon House, CA to pick up a few groceries, on our way back to the trailer we took a trip through one of the other sections and decided to move. The area we moved to has fabulous views, so we quickly packed up and found a site and got all set up again. It was a good move, what a view! Our internet is a little faster too. :o)

We spent our day in the usual way, walks, reading and computing. Dave took Cheye on one walk and he came upon a doe and her fawn, which was just steps away from Dave. He got a few photos of it bounding away. Later Dave, Cheye & I walked up the hill behind our trailer, you can see the lake from the top. Really pretty. We don’t often move once we are set up but are glad we did this time.

Back at Lake of the Springs

We are in Oregon House, CA at the Thousand Trails Lake of the Spring Preserve. We have stayed here before and really like the park. It’s pretty and well maintained plus they have a fairly active schedule. I don’t have the greatest internet connect but it’s workable.

It took us about 5 hours to make it from Thousand Trails San Benito. Our drive up I-5 was pretty unremarkable, just the way you want a road trip! The rest of our day was settling in and relaxing.

Pinnacles and Mission San Juan Bautista

Today is our last day at Thousand Trails San Benito and we had a terrific day! This morning we were getting ready to go to Pinnacles National Monument and found out Lonnie and Melba were just about to head out to the same destination. So the four of us went together and we had a great trip. First we drove in the east entrance and looked around and then drove around the park to the west entrance and wandered around in that area. It is a beautiful park. We believe we saw some California Condors circling above but they were pretty far away.

From Pinnacles we drove to the town of San Juan Bautista and visited the mission there. It is a great mission with a small museum and lovely garden. The town of San Juan Bautista is really cute, lots of little shops in a old store fronts. Unfortunately it was pouring rain so we didn’t wander around outside.

Once back to the campground, and after a phone call to a friend, Ted & Laura came over and joined Lonnie & Melba and Dave & I. We sat out under the awning and had a great time visiting. The 6 of us have been at the last two parks together but tomorrow we leave, in a couple days Lonnie & Melba leave, then Ted & Laura and we are all headed different directions. It’s kind of funny because we are all heading up to Washington State, just different routes! I’m sure we will all run into each other again and have another fun time.

Rainy Day

Today we went in to Trader Joe’s in Morgan Hill, CA and Camping World in San Martin, CA and wow, did it rain! The rain was pretty steady most of the day at times getting extremely heavy. There was standing water in places on the roads and some farms fields were flooded.

When we got back to the park we did a little drive around to see if Lonnie and Melba (a couple we met at Soledad Canyon park) had arrived yet and they were just driving in. They ended up parking next to us. Once they got set up we sat under the awnings and had some wine with cheese and crackers and talked for a couple hours. It was fun to visit with them again.

Drizzly Day

This morning I decided it was time to do some laundry. Dave had been out walking Cheye and noticed there was only 1 car at the laundry room so I packed up and headed out. Since the Family Lodge has wireless internet and is pretty close to the laundry room I took my laptop to surf the net while waiting for clothes to wash and dry.

After lunch I decided to take Cheye for a walk, while walking Cheye I decided to call a friend so I had a nice visit with my friend while I had a nice walk with Cheye. After we got back to the trailer another friend of mine called me so I had another good chat. Fun to catch up with friends.

Well the weather has been drizzly today, it started raining while I was out on my walk with Cheye after lunch and pretty much continued all afternoon. In the late afternoon Dave and I sat outside under the awning, got our little campfire going and had a glass of wine. That helped make a gloomy day seem much better!
